What is Defense of the Ancients?

Defense of the Ancients (often referred to as DotA) is a custom scenario for Warcraft III The Frozen Throne based on the "Aeon of Strife" map for Starcraft The objective of the scenario is to destroy the opponents' "Ancient". The two teams' ancients are heavily guarded structures at opposing corners of the map. Players use powerful units known as heroes, and are assisted by allied heroes and AI-controlled fighters called "creeps". As in role-playing-game, players level up their hero and use gold to buy equipment during the mission.

The scenario was developed with the World of Editor of Warcraft III Reign of Chaos , and was updated upon the release of the Warcraft expansion The Frozen Throne. There have been many variations of the original concept; currently, the most popular is DotA Allstars, which has been maintained by several authors during development.

Since its release, Allstars has become a feature at several worldwide tournaments, including Blizzard Entertainment’s BlizzCon and the Asian World Cyber Games, as well as the Cyberathlete Amateur and CyberEvolution leagues; Gamasutra declared that DotA was perhaps the most popular "free, non-supported game mod in the world". The variant is cited as an inspiration for the upcoming video game Demigod

The Lightning Shivanant! part 1

THE TANK/DPS-ER/AOE DMG DEALER/CHASER

The most balanced and team oriented item build for Razor. Late you will be as strong as in early game and mid will be no exception. You will be the team steam roller, the all round on call bitch, the guy who comes to clear the mess when someone screwed up... hell yeah you`ll be the black sheep that do all the dirty work...

SKILL PROGRESSION

lvl 1 Plasma Field
lvl 2 Static Link
lvl 3 Plasma Field
lvl 4 Static Link
lvl 5 Plasma Field
lvl 6 Eye of the Storm
lvl 7 Plasma Field
lvl 8 Static Link
lvl 9 Unstable Current
lvl 10 Unstable Current
lvl 11 Eye of the Storm
lvl 12 Unstable Current
lvl 13 Static Link
lvl 14 Unstable Current
lvl 15 stats
lvl 16 Eye of the Storm
lvls 17-25 stats

Plasma Field is maxed for better farming/harassing in the laning phase and static is picked next since your aim well be to be well tanked from early on so you`ll be able to utilize it well.Unstable current comes a bit late but in the right time when ganks and big fights will be more common and it will give you nice bonus in ms for chasing or escaping and also will ease you in getting a good Static Link even on a hero with stun skill - he stuns you then he is purged so probably the link will not be lost.Ultimate again is picked anytime you can coz it is just to good to be missed.

early to mid game items

Early you will just harass/farm with your Plasma Field and try to obtain Vanguard. This item gives you incredible survivability in the early to mid stages of the game and will ensure you strong presence in battles/ganks.Bottle, RoB and Clarity Potions are picked for regen and will be enough considering your Vanguard and not so expensive spells. Power Treads(str) are next coz by then you will have some levels in Unstable Current so you will be a better chaser and get good Static Links so the increase in AS will be useful and the strength will boost your EHP.From now on you`ll be able and should moving all over the place helping your team any time needed being a small skirmish or a bigger push/defense, picking up runes, making good cash in the forest and possibly at the same time covering the back of an ally that is farming a line when there is no action and Plasma Field allows you to double pull creep camps so jungling can be quite effective...

farming tip
When enemies are not present you should change your PT to agility for the bonus damage that will help you last hit better but be sure to transform them to strength if you are entering a fight.

About Vanguard...
But why not HoD...? Now I know that most people think this is a shitty item coz the block gets outdated as the game progresses but early it makes you rock hard and that`s just what you need.Just consider it the poor man`s HoT in late game and you`re not getting HoT so... and early is much much better than HoD even for tanking magic damage... Now let me explain this - HoD gives you round +20% EHP for magic damage(as magic reduce stacks with diminishing returns with your natural resist) so if you have 1000hp that means +200hp... and clearly Vanguard gives you more hp(that boost not only magical but and physical EHP!) almost the same regen and the awesome for the early stages of the game physical damage block - so we have a winner!

mid game objective

Getting Shiva`s Guard is obvious I think for the excellent synergy with your skills and your whole team will benefit from its goodies...Maybe delayed a bit after you ensure your survivability but still very worth it and even before you get it you are a good farmer with your Plasma Field so I guess you`ll obtain it reasonably fast... and it comes right in time for the EHP boost that it gives - in mid game you`ll have good health bonus from your items but the damage block from Vanguard is beginning to wear off so this +15 armor comes quite handy and just in time to sky high your tanking power...

late game finishers

Sange&Yasha is picked up next and will give you a bit of everything you need - tank/damage and speed/slow but is obtained later coz rushing it you won`t be able to make full use of it...and Shiva`s Guard just gives you more EHP compared to it.Now let me explain - the best way to pump up EHP is not by getting only armor or hp increasing items but combining them both.Considering you already bought hp items and your low armor getting more health is just a waste... so after the armor boost from Shiva`s Guard you`ll definitely get much more bang for you bucks. The cool thing about this item(besides all the little benefits that it gives) is that it just makes you a nasty chaser after team battles - you`ll just jump and cast Plasma Field and Arctic Blast and if there are fleeing enemies you`ll be able to chase and kill them quite effectively coz of the bonus MS you got from it and the possibility to maim them - your Shiva`s Guard will be in cool down and getting a maim will be your only option... It is a nice addition to your inventory and the perfect finisher for your build giving you loads of benefits and options in battles coz with your bonus AS from PT and this item you`ll hit fast enough and Maims will come quite often.

Just a side note that maimed enemy under the effect of Shiva`s Guard will have his AS reduced by 40%...

Game drags on get those two - they will really turn you into a beast tank and Armlet gives you some additional dps and what to pick first you should decide considering the enemy line up - more spell casters go for Hood of Defiance(maybe even upgrade it to Pipe) need more physical tanking go for Armlet of Mordiggian but they have a good synergy and you should get them both if you can.

afterword for part one
By building Razor this way you`ll have a strong presence trough out the whole game and you`ll be the ultimate team player by just being able to do lots of stuff... Not sure if the game is going to be fast or prolonged and settled in the late stages then just follow this safe route.
